Second Coat is named after the coat most people never notice. The first topcoat puts the colour on. The second gives it depth, evens it out and seals the surface against the weather. Skip it, and the paint looks fine for a summer and tired by the next.
We look after house repaints across the Auckland region: weatherboard, brick and plaster outside, walls, ceilings and trims inside. Tell us about the house, and a local painter comes out, looks at every side and gives you a fixed price in writing. You decide whether to go ahead.
The house before the colour
The visit starts with the surfaces: chalky paint, cracks, rot and bare timber. What needs fixing is priced before anyone talks about colours.
Everything in writing
The quote lists the preparation, the repairs, the products, the number of coats, the scaffolding and whether GST is included.
Lead paint handled properly
On houses built before the 1980s, lead is presumed until tested, and prepared with wet methods and containment, never dry sanding.
How does a quote work?
You send the short form or call, with your suburb and what needs painting. Your enquiry goes to an independent local painting business that covers your area. The painter contacts you, arranges a time to see the house and gives you a written quote. Asking costs you nothing, and you are under no pressure to book.
- You tell us about the house. The form or a phone call, about two minutes.
- A painter arranges a visit. They look at every side and every surface.
- You get the price in writing. Preparation, repairs, products and coats listed.
- You decide. Go ahead, ask questions, or leave it for now.
Who does the painting?
The painting business that quotes the job does the work and is responsible for it. Some painting businesses pay Second Coat a fee for the enquiries we send them, which is how a quote stays free for you. Before you agree to anything, get the quote in writing, ask about insurance, and ask to see similar jobs they have done.
What we won't do
- Push you to book
- Price a house without someone looking at it
- Suggest dry sanding or burning paint that may contain lead
- Promise a paint job lasts forever
Where do you work?
Across the Auckland region: central suburbs, the North Shore, East, West and South Auckland. There is no walk-in office, because the painter comes to you. See the areas we cover for the suburbs.
FAQs
Does a quote cost anything?
No. Asking for a quote is free, and you decide whether to go ahead. The painter will want to see the house before giving a firm price, because preparation, repairs and any lead paint change what the job involves and what it costs.
Do you have an office I can visit?
No. Second Coat works across Auckland, and the painter comes to your house to see the job and quote. Everything else is arranged by phone or email, whichever suits you once you have sent the form.
How do I contact you?
Call 09 870 0668 or email hello@secondcoat.co.nz with any question about a quote or your details. Second Coat is operated by Second Coat. You can ask at any time to see or delete the details you sent through the form.
What happens to my details?
They go to the painting business that will quote your job, so it can contact you, and nowhere else. The privacy policy sets out exactly what is kept, for how long, and how to ask for it to be deleted.
